Rotary Club: Vitacura

Jamie and I got dressed up in our suits and went to the Vitacura Rotary Club meeting on April 6th. It was held in the late evening at a Sheraton in Providencia, about a 10 minute walk from Jamie's apartment. Jose Miguel Oportus Mateluna, our temporary host counselor, introduced us to members of the club and seated us at "the young people's table" where we were regaled with stories in both Spanish and English until the meeting began. I brought my camera to take pictures, but didn't realize until I got to the hotel that I'd left the battery charging at home!

About 40 people attended the meeting, in which we discussed new missions for the club, the upcoming district conference, and of course, the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and what Jamie and I are doing in Santiago. And then we ate the best meal I've had in Santiago so far - ceviche, ribs (for those who eat them), vegetables (for those who don't), Chilean wine and lots of good conversation.

I gave the club president one of the Martha's Vineyard Rotary Club flags, and received a Vitacura Club flag to bring back to the US. The people I met at the club were extremely friendly, and I look forward to working with them in the future and attending meetings as often as possible.
